LOS ANGELES — Adult entertainment still holds the promise of a stable career path when compared to many segments of the economy — a situation which is attracting a new wave of entrants to the industry.

Like industries such as farming, medicine, and energy, a reduction in disposable income does not impact one's basic needs for food, shelter, and intimacy," Walters said. "While the profitability of commercial erotica has been impacted by external factors like piracy, criminal prosecutions and the availability of free material online, the economy will have little effect, as individuals will not hesitate to spend scarce dollars satisfying the need for sexual experiences."
